"Mighty" Mike McGee
Michael Matthew McGee, more commonly known as Mighty Mike McGee, (born January 12, 1976) is an American slam poet.

Born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, McGee is the oldest of 8 children from several marriages. He has spent most of his life in and around San Jose, California where he started his career in spoken word, poetry slam and performance poetry in 1998. He is a contemporary of Jack McCarthy and Buddy Wakefield.

The nickname "Mighty" inadvertently came from McGee himself. In 1997, McGee became interested in the internet, however, he was unable to acquire a simple email address without numbers in it, so mightymikemcgee was the only username acceptable to him. A fellow slam poet agreed to use it publicly until it caught on with friends and audiences. It has become a standard introduction for him by hosts and emcees prior to most performances.

Ainsley Burrows
Ainsley is a rockstar and writer, a performance poet and international spy. What is most captivating is his ability to walk through walls and to vanish right before your eyes. He makes you "feel" metaphors that your intellect may not understand or your sense of perception doesn't grasp, but somehow, your spirit translates...you come away feeling "wiser" even without fully knowing why. He manages to enhance your essence at that moment, imbed the code into your flesh and patiently waits for your spirit, far later to say "Oh....I understand

Ca!tlin Meissner

When words weren’t enough, New York City found a way to make sense of it all. Welcome, Brooklyn’s newest discovery, Ca!tlin Meissner. As a poet, graphic designer, activist and educator the Albany raised Ca!tlin, found solace in the charming and unruly packaging of performance poetry. Recently graduating from Pratt University with degree in Graphics Design, Ca!tlin acquired the position as Development Associate at the grassroots community organization, Lower Eastside Girls Club. In the process of student turned artist, she has found the highs and lows of the art form, famed by HBO’s Def Poetry and cult classic Slamnation.

It was in the midst of this awakening when Ca!tlin discovered a love for the truth and the word.

Welcoming her voice and hunger at the young mere age of nine, Ca!tlin had little understanding of how to extinguish this passion for poetry. It was in 2004, Ca!tlin introduced herself to the stages of New York City and was ambushed, lyrically. Since her induction into the life, she has performed for the literary progressive group Louderarts; alongside Ngoma of the No Strings Band; and on world renowned stage of The Nuyorican Poets Café.

With the usage of words, heart Braille and painful lessons of life, Ca!tlin has utilized her experience in anti-racism work, disability advocacy and youth mentoring as a platform on human frailty. Simple heartbreak, social justice and truth have changed the lives of her unsuspecting audiences during Hip Hop Showcases and later filled the pages with hope in her first book of poetry, BRICK/by/BRICK (a collection of 16 poems and some line drawings) available on www.poetcd.com .

As Ca!tlin continues to perform throughout the Tri-State area with Symphonics Live and other groundbreaking live art productions, her heart remains intact for the love of her yet to be titled album. This offering of sounds and song will focus on Ca!tlin’s passion: women empowerment and will be released in Spring 2008 as she promises to stain the fabric of those things that taunt the simple beauty of woman, beginning with the intricate structure of a syllable.

Jaha Zainabu
I AM A POET, PAINTER, MURALIST, MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER, VOICE OVER ARTIST. LOVE ME LOVE MY ART. People often ask how long I've been writing, performing and painting (yes, I'm also a visual artist.)

My answer varies, but the truth is that I don't remember not doing these things. I brought them with me. Like many artists, I performed in the church, Easter speeches, Sunday evening service "short talks," and any other time I could get on the microphone at St. Mark Baptist Church in Long Beach, CA. I spent my childhood and teenage years writing stories. Then late in high school to my early twenties I fell in love with Nikki Giovanni's work and was inspired to find my own poetic voice.

I began performing at a bookstore in Long Bech called Uhura Sassa where I, along with about ten to twelve other "too black too strongers" "dropped science" on Tuesday nights. (Oh, the days!) From there I began performing at The World Stage in Leimert Park, a central Los Angeles black art scene no artist in Southern California worth her salt could resist. "The Stage," founded by drummer Billy Higgins and poet Kamau Daaood, became church for me. I dropped three dollars in the bucket, took my seat, spit my piece and was saved! For real. On any given week the poets would, and still do, amaze me with their respect for the venue's "NO BULLSHIT" rule. No bullshit.

In 1996, "Journey" was born. "Journey" was my one-woman show where I performed poetry, told stories, shared secrets, gave myself and let God be God through me. The show stared in a coffee shop in Long Beach, then made way to Karibu, a coffee shop/vibe spot in Inglewood, then in 2000, The Lucy Florence Coffee Shop in Leimert Park. During this time I was growing so much as a performer, I had so much inside of me, "Journey" wasn't really a choice. It had to come out. Ryan Cross, a most fabulous entertainer on the upright bass "Journeyed" with me from the start at Lucy Florence throughout southern and northern California hot spots, to Seattle, New York and back to Los Angeles. During this time we recorded a cd called of course JOURNEY, produced by Bili Redd. The cd is a raw blend of spoken word and music.

Then later I came out with another cd, UNMASKED, produced by George R. McDonald (I can't wait until all the world knows his poetic voice.) UNMASKED is a live project with me in front of audiences around Los Angeles where I am poetic, funny, silly, serious, sane, insane. So here's where I mention the third cd, G FAT BLUES, with me, Ryan Cross on bass and Joshua Silverstein beat boxin his head off. The producer of that project will remain nameless because she skipped town with the masters. You live and you learn. By the way, I forgive you Nameless, wherever you are.

In addition to art and poetry, I am a voice over artist. I was a regular on the radio soap opera "It's Your World" where I played the character Janet Sharp. I am currently on the radio soap opera "What's Poppin'" where I play Trina. If you're in one of the many cities where the shows are airing, please keep listening and telling us how much you dig the shows.
